14th of May to 11th of June, Every Monday (5 week course) £110
7.40pm to 9.40pm Portraits and the Human Body
This five week course is about painting portraits and the figure. This course will look at the biological diagrams of the body, an understanding in portraiture and painting the figure a notion of inside and outside represented in painting. The courses will look at the ways artist sees a character and observes different traits. The course will look at helping the students find their own selection and development in line, colour and subject.
The first two weeks of the course will be exploring different ways of drawing the figure, and then there will be a three week (6hr) pose. Looking at washes highlights on the form, negative spaces, how to paint skin, and fabric, definition, background, pressure and textures in applying paint. The course will discuss the work of Howard Hodgkin, Leonardo Da Vinci, Lucien Freud, Paul Gauguin, Matisse, Yves Klein, Constantin Brancusi, Diego Velazquez, Edouard Manet, Painter and His Model by Pablo Picasso, 1927, and Rene Magritte.

7.40pm to 9.40pm – Painting from Nature (5 week Course) £110
Working from 5 different still life compositions this course aims to enable you to make five great small paintings. Looking at realism, impression, how to resonate different atmospheres and create textures in painting. The course will explore how to capture glass, wood, flowers and mirrors. This course is a perfect introduction to including other objects also in backgrounds in figure painting. Looking at colour, tone, directions of lines and marks. The course will discuss the work of Cezanne, Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Pablo Picasso Cockerel, 1938, Van Gogh, Willem Kalf.

Sundays 17th of June to 19th of August
Summer Outdoor Course Landscapes 10 week Course £110
This course is a ten week course round Oxford. Painting portraits in landscapes and also Port meadow. Working on a composition for four weeks. Visiting the colleges, University parks, Pitt Rivers Collection and various meadows. Looking at what compositions make a great landscape and how to observe perspective in drawing outside. This is also the perfect course to start building a sketchbook and explore different mediums from watercolour to pastels. The last five weeks will be spent outside painting a landscape of Portmeadow.
This course is dependent slightly on the weather (if wet inside options will be available).

Saturday Day Course – Exploring the ideas about the Age of the Enlightenment
16th of June, 11am to 4.30pm (45 minute Lunch break) £55
Science and art have had a close relationship at many different times in art history. This course will look at how the investigation to find an understanding of the world has led to studies of a notion of truth in painting. The desire for allegories and metaphor in art connected to science. Looking at stories of fertility gods, to biological paintings of muscles, and how imagination can play a role in focusing our attention in science. This is an ideas based course – focusing on also ideas about the solar system and landscape and bringing these ideas into painting. This will be a five week project based course. In this course can work in pairs or individually.
Discussing the work of artists Leonardo da Vinci, Carvaggio, and contemporary artists work that deal with similar concerns.

7.40pm to 9.40pm Materials Course and Making Portraits course – Charcoal, Watercolours, Acrylic, Oils and Portraits (5 week course) £110
This course will be an introduction to different materials. During the course the class will paint 5 different portraits, one in pencil, one in charcoal, one in watercolour, one in Acrylic and one in oil. The course will look at the different techniques that can be explored in each different medium. Layering, washes, staccato, blurring and soft mark making, pointillism, blocking, perspective and tone.

7.40pm to 9.40pm Summer Expression and Painting landscapes (5 week course) £110
Painting the fruits of the season, the landscapes of blossom and evoke the light of summer. This course looks at exploring different expressions and impressions in painting. During the course, each student will pick one subject of choice in relation to summer, and look to develop their own great paintings of this subject. This course will look to help students develop their own research into painting in summer and summer landscapes. The course will look at different types of painting expression and accentuating different atmospheres.

1st of October to 29th of October, Every Monday
7.40pm to 9.40pm Portraiture for Beginners. (5 week course) £110
This course will be the painting of a portrait for 5 weeks. The integrity of a character, understanding the way that the model is and bringing about a naturalist impression of the model. The course will focus on the development of the presence of individuals in painting. The course will go over the basics of measurement, tone, colour, and composition in painting. In the last three weeks the course will focus on completing one great painting of the model for a 6hr pose. All Materials provided. Suitable for beginners.

7.40pm to 9.40pm Still Life – 5 weeks – One Composition, £110, 5 week Course
This course will focus on painting a large still life for five weeks on canvas. The course will look at how to observe and practise in painting different textures, colours, and capture the different forms of objects. Evoke calming atmospheres, and a sense of autumn in the painting. Painting on a large canvas, this course aims to help students capture a beautiful selection of colour, and form. All materials provided. Suitable for all levels. Acrylic on canvas.
