ANNA PROCTOR

'Jericho Design House'

9th November - 16th January 2022
Extended to 27th February

EXHIBITION  STATEMENT

A diverse collection of Printed Textiles and Giclee Prints featuring intricate and ornate textile patterns, botanical imagery and watercolour illustrations.

Inspired by William and May Morris, The Bloomsbury Set, Liberty’s and beautiful corners of Oxford among others.

Anna’s work always begins on paper with watercolour, inks and occasionally collage. She rarely has a finished product in mind, focusing on pattern and colour initially. She then uses Photoshop to play; adapting the scale, colour and placement.

She started to develop more figurative work two years ago as a means to push through a period of creative block. “I just needed to paint something! So I picked a photo of my family walking in Wytham Woods. It was a challenge, but I was surprised to find it meditative too, like working on a jigsaw puzzle. Each evening I’d return to the picture to add more of the beautiful details of the forest.” This led to a series of illustrations including Little Clarendon Street and Observatory Street

BIOGRAPHY

Anna is an experienced Printed Textile Designer, she studied Textile Design at Nottingham Trent, graduating in 2001. Originally from Newcastle she moved to Oxford in 2005 and now lives in Jericho with her partner and three children.

She has worked in the fashion industry for 20 years, spending more than half of that time as a freelance designer. Her clients include M&S, Monsoon, Oliver Bonas and currently, Anthropologie.

Anna launched Jericho Design House in 2017. “I always wanted to have my own brand, but was so used to working to a design brief for others, I wasn't entirely sure what it would look like! It took time for me to realise that the adaptability I'd learnt as a freelance designer could be my unique selling point as a brand.

So after my third child began nursery, in a period where I was looking for new freelance work, I just started drawing, painting and collaging. I created a diverse range of designs for every room and purpose in my home - for the kids, living, dining and garden and

I wanted all those areas to have their own distinct feel!”

This is Anna‘s first solo exhibition.
